Health Canada at the 2012 Diversity
Health Canada is proud to be named one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers for 2012.
Programs and initiatives that Health Canada has in place to improve workplace inclusiveness include:
Employee Networks are an integral part of Health Canada. The networks provide a safe environment for dialogue and provide an opportunity for employees and managers to connect, gain leadership skills and to resolve diversity issues. They also serve as a consultative body to help Health Canada deliver its commitment to diversity and inclusiveness excellence in the workplace.
These include: Agents of Change Network, Aboriginal Employees Network, Young Professionals Network, Persons with Disabilities Network, Visible Minorities Network, and Q Network (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered (GLBT) and Two-Spirit).
Iskotew ("the fire within") is an Aboriginal teaching and healing centre that regularly provides teachings, Elder consultations, story-telling and craft circles to bring cultural awareness to employees - especially the ones who provide health services to Aboriginal peoples. It also provides a supportive space to help employees deal with workplace challenges. People of all faiths are welcome.
Otherwise known as the Multi-Year Diversity and Employment Equity Plan, MYDEEP monitors and reports on the Department's overall progress in creating an inclusive workplace via performance indicators.
The Program is designed to increase the number of Aboriginal executives in the Department and to assist aspiring executives with challenging, hands-on assignments in program policy and operations.
This Program offers opportunities for Health Canada employees with disabilities to gain valuable knowledge, skills and experience that will support them in their career development, through assignment opportunities.
The Centre works collaboratively with key stakeholders and acts as a catalyst for sustainable improvement within the Department on disability issues. It develops and facilitates programs and services to recruit and develop employees with disabilities, promotes a culture of diversity and inclusiveness, and fosters a healthy workplace to prevent workplace acquired disabilities.
