My name is Jason Pearman. I am an investigator at the Medical Devices Bureau at Health Canada.
I like problems and I like technology, I like devices and in the medical devices bureau we get to see everything before physicians even get a chance to touch it.
We have to understand the technology on the basics of a device and then we have to look at the designs and what the device is intended to do and then look at all the testing and be like OK well is that good enough; or did the manufacturer think about this particular failure mode. We have to look at the clinical trials to make sure that the right populations were being sampled.
As an individual who is interested in social justice, human development, sustainability,
being in the public service allows me and other like minded individuals to hopefully steer our country in a direction that moves us forward.
The work place environment is fantastic and my colleagues, I am a little embarrassed because their technical expertise, medical expertise is just inspiring it is mind blowing that these people have dedicated their lives to becoming experts in their field and I am just I am humbled by some of the knowledge. It is almost like being in an academic institution without having the pressure of writing papers.
I have the coolest job in the world because I get to see all of the technology that I have been dreaming about for however long I was in school and it is right in front of me. And I get to see all the nicks and nacks all of the issues that have to be sussed out before it gets released to market and I am the person doing that vetting. It is perfect.
