Family Violence is abusive behaviour that can be physical, sexual or psychological. It can also take the form of physical or emotional neglect. Family violence occurs in relationships of kinship, intimacy, dependency or trust. Individuals can be abused regardless of their age, gender, cultural background, education, income or place of residence.
The National Clearinghouse on Family Violence (NCFV) is Canada's national resource centre for information about family violence. The NCFV collects, develops and disseminates resources on prevention, protection and treatment.
The NCFV operates on behalf of the Family Violence Initiative of the Government of Canada. The Family Violence Initiative is a collaboration of thirteen partner departments. These partnerships are key to addressing the complex issue of family violence.
