Consumer Product Safety (CPS) works closely with industry, partners and stakeholders to protect consumers from product-related hazards and to promote the safe use of products. The basis for the regulatory authority of CPS comes from the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.

CPS is actively involved in injury prevention through promoting consumer awareness of product-related hazards. CPS also encourages the design of safer products for the Canadian market by providing importers and manufacturers with hazard information and technical information on regulatory requirements. For assistance in importing, manufacturing or selling products in Canada contact your local regional Product Safety office.

CPS addresses the following hazards:

Research and tests performed by the Product Safety Laboratory support the development of standards and product safety regulations. These regulations, are enforced by Product Safety Officers who oversee inspections, investigations, seizures, recalls and prosecutions from the regional offices.
