The Official Language Community Development Bureau (OLCDB) at Health Canada coordinates the implementation of Section 41 of the Next link will take you to another Web site Official Languages Act (Part VII), which aims to enhance the vitality of official language minority communities and to promote the use of English and French in Canadian Society. Health Canada has the duty to ensure that positive measures are taken for the implementation of these commitments, while respecting the jurisdiction and powers of the provinces.

The OLCDB's responsibilities also include:

  • Managing the Official Languages Health Contribution Program (OLHCP);
  • Promoting and developing of partnerships with official language minority communities;
  • Providing advice and guidance to Health Canada branches and regional offices to assist them in the implementation of Part VII of the Official Languages Act using a departmental-wide approach;
  • Coordinating the preparation of the annual Action Plan and Status Report concerning the implementation of Section 41 of the Official Languages Act;
  • Leading and integrating the efforts of the coordinators responsible for the implementation of Part VII of the Official Languages Act across the department; and
  • Providing secretariat services for the Consultative Committees for English- and French-speaking Minority Communities.
