Bowers Medical Ltd. Recalls a Number of Triad Products

OTTAWA - Following our communication regarding the Shandex Sales Group's voluntary recall of alcohol swabs and our communication regarding Teva's Multiple Sclerosis kit co-packaged with recalled prep pads, Health Canada is informing Canadians that Bowers Medical Ltd. has initiated a voluntary recall of alcohol swabsticks, swabs and prep pads manufactured by the same company, Triad Group.

Alcohol swabsticks, swabs and prep pads are used to cleanse or disinfect a particular area of the body. Bowers Medical Ltd. is requesting that hospitals, wholesalers, pharmacies and other retail locations immediately stop using and/or selling these products.

Bowers Medical Ltd. has also initiated a voluntary recall of lubricating jelly manufactured by Triad Group. Lubricating Jelly is used to lubricate body orifices for the insertion of medical devices, such as catheters.

Health Canada is working with the company and will monitor the recall of these products from the Canadian market. To date, Health Canada has not received any reports of adverse reactions related to the use of Triad alcohol swabsticks, swabs and prep pads or their lubricating jelly product.

Health Canada would also like to remind Canadians who have concerns about these products to consult with their health care practitioner. Should any new information be identified, Health Canada will continue to provide an update to Canadians.

Product Recall Information:

All lot numbers of alcohol swabsticks, swabs and prep pads or their lubricating jelly mentioned below are affected by this recall. To date, Health Canada has been advised that these products were distributed to health care facilities and retail stores in Alberta and British Columbia. It is important to note that these products may also have been distributed elsewhere.

Triad Sterile Lubricating Jelly	144 tubes per box. All lots numbers beginning with 7, 8, 9 and 0.
