Product Description
Clarcon skincare products are promoted as antimicrobial agents that claim to treat open wounds, damaged skin, and protect against various infectious diseases.

These products are sold under several brand names as skin sanitizers and skin protectants.

Reason for Warning
The FDA warned consumers not to buy or use Clarcon skincare products after an FDA inspection found high levels of disease-causing bacteria in the products.

The manufacturer is voluntarily recalling these products from the U.S. market. U.S. consumers are advised to discard these products.

Possible Side-Effects
According to the FDA, some of the bacteria found can cause infections of the skin and underlying tissues.  Such infections may need medical or surgical attention, and could result in permanent damage.

Consumers exposed to products contaminated with bacteria, mould and/or yeast may experience various symptoms including allergic reactions, inflammation and infection. Groups particularly at risk of adverse health effects include infants and young children, due to their immature immune systems. Other at-risk groups include pregnant/nursing women, the elderly or persons with weak immune systems.

These products are not authorized for sale in Canada and have not been found in the Canadian marketplace, but it is possible they may have been brought into the country by travellers or purchased over the Internet.
