Health Canada is advising consumers not to use the products specified below due to concerns about possible side-effects.

These products are not authorized for sale in Canada and have not been found in the Canadian marketplace. However, it is possible these products could be purchased by Canadians travelling abroad or have been brought into Canada through personal importation by travellers or purchased over the Internet.

Canadians who have these products are advised not to use them, and should consult with a health care professional if they have concerns about their health related to the use of these products. More info

  • TYLENOL® Arthritis Pain Caplet 100 count bottles, with the distinctive red EZ-OPEN CAP [2009-12-31]
    The U.S. Food and Drug Administration informed consumers of a recall of this product because of an unusual mouldy, musty, or mildew-like odour that has been associated with nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea. The odour has been linked to the presence of trace amounts of the chemical 2,4,6-tribromoanisole.
  • Zeng Da Yan Shi Wan [2009-12-22]
    The Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers not to buy or use Zeng Da Yan Shi Wan after it was found to contain undeclared sildenafil.
  • Show Party [shou-shen pai*] [2009-12-22]
    The Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers not to buy or use this weight-loss product because it contains undeclared sibutramine and phenolphthalein. Sibutramine is a prescription drug and should only be used under the supervision of a health care practitioner. Phenolphthalein is no longer authorized for sale in Canada because it may cause cancer.
  • Power-Plus P (expiry date 03/03/2011) [2009-12-22]
    The Singapore Health Sciences Authority issued a recall notice for Power-Plus P (expiry date 03/03/2011) because it contains tadalafil, which is a prescription drug and should only be taken under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • S-DROL [2009-12-10]
    The FDA informed consumers of a voluntary recall of one lot (lot# 810481, expiry date 01/2012) of S-DROL after FDA testing found it to contain undeclared desoxymethyltestosterone. Desoxymethyltestosterone is a controlled substance in Canada and should only be taken under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • All bodybuilding products manufactured by American Cellular Labs [2009-12-10]
    The FDA warned consumers to stop using all bodybuilding products manufactured by American Cellular Labs, as they contain unauthorized synthetic steroids. Furthermore, the FDA warned consumers to stop using any bodybuilding products marketed as containing steroids or steroid-like substances, as these products contain unauthorized substances and may cause serious health effects.

October

  • Syntrax Fyre, Texiao Fengshi Gutong Ling,Kam Yuen Brand Wan Ying Yang Gan Wan [2009-10-14]
    The Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers to not buy or use these three products because they contain the undeclared prescription drugs yohimbine, indomethacin or sildenafil, and may cause serious side-effects. These drugs should only be used under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • STEAM [2009-10-14]
    The U.S. FDA warned consumers not to use two lots (lot# 80214, 90260) of the product STEAM because these lots contain undeclared tadalafil or a substance similar to sildenafil (sulfoaildenafil). Tadalafil and sildenafil are prescription drugs and should only be taken under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Dynasty Worldwide Jinglida So Young Formula [2009-10-14]
    The Singapore Health Sciences Authority warned consumers to not buy or use this product because it contains undeclared aminotadalafil, an unauthorized substance similar to tadalafil. Tadalafil is a prescription drug and should only be taken under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Bao Ling [2009-10-14]
    The Singapore Health Sciences Authority advised consumers not to use Bao Ling because it contains the undeclared pharmaceutical substances betamethasone, hydrochlorothiazide and chlorpheniramine, and may cause serious side-effects.

  • One Weight Loss Pill, SlimDemand and Botanical Weight Loss [2009-09-04]
    The U.S. FDA warned consumers not to buy or use these three products because they contain undeclared sibutramine, which is a prescription drug and should be only used under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Slim House: Green algae fat-melting agent [2009-09-04]
    The Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers not to buy or use this product because it contains undeclared sibutramine, which is a prescription drug and should only be used under the supervision of a health care practitioner, and phenolphthalein, which is no longer authorized for sale in Canada because it may cause cancer.
  • Dr. Health Series SB Factor and Dr. Health Series GQ Factor [2009-09-04]
    The Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers not to buy or use these two products because they contain undeclared phenolphthalein. Phenolphthalein is no longer authorized for sale in Canada because it may cause cancer.
  • REDUCE WEIHGT [2009-09-04]
    The Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers not to buy or use REDUCE WEIHGT (sic) because it contains undeclared sibutramine, which is a prescription drug and should only be used under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • LibieXtreme, Y-4ever, Powermania (liquid and capsule), Libimax X and Herbal Disiac [2009-09-04]
    The U.S. FDA warned consumers to not use these products, which are manufactured by the U.S. company Nature & Health Co., because they contain undeclared tadalafil or substances similar to tadalafil or sildenafil. Tadalafil and sildenafil are prescription drugs and should only be taken under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Libipower Plus [2009-09-04]
    The U.S. FDA warned consumers to not use Libipower Plus because it contains undeclared tadalafil and may cause serious cardiovascular side effects. Tadalafil is a prescription drug and should only be taken under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Jin Yuan Pai Xue Guan Qing Dao Fu Jiao Nang and Kam Yuen Brand Xue Guan Qing Dao Fu tablet [2009-09-04]
    The Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers to not buy or use these two products because they contain undeclared sildenafil. Sildenafil is a prescription drug and should only be taken under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Hardcore Energize Bullet, lot 1945 (Blue Rage flavour) [2009-09-04]
    The U.S. FDA warned consumers not to buy or use certain lots of this product due to suspected tampering involving the report of a utility knife found in one vial of the test-tube shaped energy shot. The affected lots are being recalled from the U.S. market.

August

  • Stamina-Rx [2009-08-19]
    The U.S. FDA informed consumers of a voluntary recall of Stamina-Rx after it was found to contain undeclared benzamidenafil. Benzamidenafil is a new, unauthorized pharmaceutical chemical with properties similar to prescription drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction, and may cause serious health effects.
  • New Whey liquid products (certain lots) [2009-08-19]
    The U.S. FDA warned consumers not to buy or use certain lots of New Whey liquid products due to suspected tampering involving the report of a utility knife found in one vial of the protein beverage product. The affected lots are being recalled from the U.S. market.
  • All skincare products manufactured by Clarcon Biological Chemistry Laboratory Inc. [2009-08-19]
    The U.S. FDA warned consumers not to buy or use any Clarcon skincare products after they were found to be contaminated with high levels of disease-causing bacteria, which could result in serious skin adverse health effects. These products are being voluntarily recalled from the U.S. market.
  • Delima Raja Urat and Cao Gen Bai Lin Wan [2009-08-19]
    The Singapore Health Sciences Authority warned consumers to not buy or use these two products because they contain undeclared pharmaceutical ingredients and may cause adverse health effects.

  • XP Tongkat Ali Supreme [2009-07-29]
    The Singapore Health Sciences Authority warned consumers to not buy or use XP Tongkat Ali Supreme because it contains undeclared tadalafil. Tadalafil is a prescription drug and should only be taken under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Neovidan [2009-07-29]
    The Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers not to buy or use Neovidan because it contains undeclared prednisolone and mefenamic acid, prescription drugs that should only be used under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Air Ikan Haruan [2009-07-29]
    The Singapore Health Sciences Authority warned consumers to not buy or use Air Ikan Haruan because it contains undeclared dexamethasone. Dexamethasone is a prescription drug and should only be taken under the supervision of a health care practitioner.

June

  • "24" ince, Light Some, Paiyouji, Pearl White Slimming, Reducing Weight Easily [2009-06-29]
    Swissmedic warned consumers not to buy or use these five products, which are promoted for weight loss. These products contain undeclared pharmaceutical ingredients (sibutramine and/or phenolphthalein) and/or excessive levels of lead, and may cause serious health effects.
  • Libimax [2009-06-29]
    The U.S. FDA informed consumers of a voluntary recall of Libimax after it was found to contain undeclared tadalafil. Tadalafil is a prescription drug and should only be taken under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • 999 Fitness Essence [2009-06-29]
    The U.S. FDA warned consumers not to buy or use 999 Fitness Essence because it contains undeclared sibutramine, which is a prescription drug and should be only used under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Slimbionic, Xsvelten, Herbal Xenicol, BioEmagrecim (FDA update) [2009-06-29]
    The U.S. FDA warned consumers not to buy or use the weight-loss products Slimbionic or Xsvelten because they contain undeclared sibutramine, or Herbal Xenicol because it contains undeclared cetilistat. The FDA also provided updated information on BioEmagrecim. BioEmagrecim, which the FDA had previously warned contained sibutramine, was also found to contain fluoxetine, furosemide and fenproporex. Sibutramine, fluoxetine and furosemide are prescription drugs should be only used under the supervision of a health care practitioner. Fenproporex and cetilistat are not authorized in Canada.
  • Levemir insulin - Lot numbers XZF0036, XZF0037, and XZF0038 [2009-06-18]
    The U.S. FDA warned consumers not to buy or use three lots of Levemir insulin vials (lots XZF0036, XZF0037 and XZF0038). These lots were reported stolen in the U.S. and have reappeared for sale on the U.S. market. These lots may not have been stored and handled properly and may pose a serious risk to health.
  • Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel, Zicam Cold Remedy Swabs, and Zicam Cold Remedy Swabs, Kids Size [2009-06-17]
    The U.S. FDA warned consumers not to buy or use these three products, which are applied nasally and promoted to relieve cold symptoms, after they were associated with numerous reports of loss of the sense of smell among users.
  • Zhong Guo Shen Fang [2009-06-03]
    The Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers not to buy or use Zhong Guo Shen Fang because it contains an unauthorized substance similar to sildenafil. Sildenafil is a prescription drug and should only be taken under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Zencore Plus [2009-06-03]
    The U.S. FDA informed consumers of a voluntary recall of Zencore Plus after it was found to contain undeclared benzamidenafil.  Benzamidenafil is a new, unauthorized pharmaceutical chemical with properties similar to prescription drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction, and may cause serious health effects.
  • Shan Dian Qiang Xiao Shou [2009-06-03]
    The Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers not to buy or use Shan Dian Qiang Xiao Shou because it contains undeclared sibutramine and phenolphthalein, and may cause serious health effects.
  • Fortodol [2009-06-03]
    Several regulatory agencies warned consumers not to buy or use Fortodol because it contains the drug nimesulide. Nimesulide is not authorized in Canada because of its association with liver damage.
  • Jia Yi Jian [2009-06-03]
    The U.K. Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency warned consumers not to buy or use Jia Yi Jian because it contains undeclared sibutramine and tadalafil. Both are prescription drugs and should only be taken under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Fangocur Mineral Drink [2009-06-03]
    The FSA warned consumers not to buy or use Fangocur Mineral Drink after it was found to contain dangerous levels of arsenic, which may cause serious health risks.

March

  • Relacore [2009-03-05]
    The Singapore Health Sciences Authority and the Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers not to buy or use Relacore because it contains undeclared sibutramine, a prescription drug that should only be used under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Huiji Yin Chiao Chieh Tu Pien [2009-03-05]
    The Singapore Health Sciences Authority recalled one batch (# JG0825, expiry date 08/2009) of this product because it contains undeclared paracetamol (acetaminophen) and chlorpheniramine, and may cause serious side-effects.
  • Bevidan [2009-03-05]
    The Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers not to buy or use this product because it contains undeclared prednisolone and mefenamic acid, prescription drugs that should only be used under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Best-life Fat Burning Capsules [2009-03-05]
    The Agence française de sécurité sanitaire des produits de santé warned consumers not to use this product because it contains sibutramine, a prescription drug that should only be used under the supervision of a health care practitioner. It also contains phenolphthalein, which is not authorized for sale in Canada because it may cause cancer. The warning came after the death of a 32-year old woman who had been using the product.
  • 68 Weight Loss Products [2009-03-05]
    These 68 products, which are all promoted for weight loss, were found to contain the undeclared pharmaceutical ingredients sibutramine, phenytoin, bumetanide, rimonabant and/or phenolphthalein. The U.S. FDA has initiated product recalls and warned consumers to not buy or use these products due to concerns of serious side effects.

February

  • Lami [2009-02-25]
    The Singapore Health Sciences Authority informed consumers that Lami contains undeclared sibutramine, a prescription drug that should only be used under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Linglongquxian [2009-02-25]
    The Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers not to use this product because it contains sibutramine, a prescription drug that should only be used under the supervision of a health care practitioner. It also contains phenolphthalein, which is not authorized for sale in Canada because it may cause cancer.
  • Menergy M-Essence [2009-02-25]
    The Singapore Health Sciences Authority warned consumers not to buy or use this product because it contains two unauthorized substances similar in structure to sildenafil. Sildenafil is a prescription drug that should only be used under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Nyal Day & Night Cold & Flu Fighter (AUST L 146264) Nyal Cold & Flu Fighter (AUST L 146263) [2009-02-25]
    The Australia Therapeutic Goods Administration warned consumers to not use these two products after they were associated with serious allergic reactions, including life-threatening reactions (anaphylaxis). The products were voluntarily recalled by the manufacturer from the market and consumers were advised to return them to the place of purchase.
  • 999 Radix Notoginseng, Batch no. 0807021 [2009-02-25]
    The Singapore Health Sciences Authority (HSA) warned consumers not to use batch# 0807021 of this product after it was found to be contaminated with an excessive level of arsenic. The HSA initiated a product recall for the affected batch.
  • Slim Pure, Carbohydrate, Kalomee, K Carbohydrate, K Tighten Slim, K Slimming Pills [2009-02-25]
    The Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers not to use these products because they contain sibutramine and/or unauthorized substances similar to sibutramine, a prescription drug that should only be used under the supervision of a health care practitioner.

January

  • Zhuang Tjar Gere [2009-01-30]
    The Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers not to buy or use this product because it contains undeclared sildenafil and tadalafil. These are prescription drugs that should only be used under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Zhixhue Capsules [2009-01-30]
    China's State Food and Drug Administration warned consumers not to buy or use Zhixue Capsules, manufactured by Vital Pharmaceutical Holdings Ltd., after the product was suspected to be associated with several reports of liver dysfunction and other adverse reactions. A nationwide recall was initiated for the product.
  • Tonik Warisan Banjar [2009-01-30]
    Malaysia's National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau tested this product following a report of an adverse reaction and found it contained undeclared dexamethasone, a prescription anti-inflammatory drug that should only be used under the supervision of a health care practitioner.
  • Healthily Slim [2009-01-30]
    The Hong Kong Department of Health (HKDH) warned consumers not to buy or use this product because it contains undeclared sibutramine, a prescription drug that should only be used under the supervision of a health care practitioner.

Drugs and natural health products that are authorized for sale in Canada will have either an eight-digit Drug Identification Number (DIN), a Natural Product Number (NPN) or a Homeopathic Medicine Number (DIN-HM) on the label. These numbers indicate that the products have been assessed by Health Canada for safety, effectiveness and quality.

Health Canada advises Canadians to contact the Health Products and Food Branch Inspectorate at 1-800-267-9675 if they find any of the products listed above in the Canadian marketplace.
