Dr. McEwan is currently Chair of the Department of Oncology within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta. He is also Adjunct Professor of the Department of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging within this Faculty. In addition, he is the Associate Director of Research and the Acting Director of the Department of Oncologic Imaging at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton. He's been a member of the University of Alberta faculty since 1986. He has been instrumental in the development of the Positron Emission Tomography (PET ) Programme at the Cross Cancer Institute.
Dr. McEwan has published more than 75 papers, contributed to 20 books and has been recognized for his research on radioisotope therapy, novel radiopharmaceuticals, clinical trials with imaging biomarkers, radiopharmaceutical dosimetry and very low dose radiation effects in radioisotope therapy. He has won several awards for his work, including the Journal of Nuclear Medicine's Manuscript of the Year Award, the University of Alberta's McCalla Professorship, and the Western Regional Society of Nuclear Medicine Distinguished Scientist Award for Distinguished Contributions to Nuclear Medicine.
Dr. McEwan is a member of the Canadian Association of Nuclear Medicine, the Society of Nuclear Medicine, the European Association of Nuclear Medicine, and the World Radiopharmaceutical Therapy Council. He is also the past president of the Board of Directors for the Society of Nuclear Medicine.
