Minister Aglukkaq Announces Appointment to Hazardous Materials Information Review Commission

OTTAWA - Today, the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health announced the appointment of Mr. Norman Tran to the Hazardous Materials Information Review Commission's (HMIRC) Council of Governors.

"Mr. Tran will be an important asset to the Hazardous Materials Information Review Commission," said Minister Aglukkaq. "The Commission will certainly benefit from his extensive knowledge and experience in the field of occupational hygiene and workplace safety."

Mr. Tran has been working in the field of occupational hygiene for 20 years and is currently the Senior Occupational Hygienist with the Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Division. Mr. Tran has been involved with the development, implementation and evolution of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information system (WHMIS) and currently represents Manitoba on a number of WHMIS committees. Among his many career accomplishments, Mr. Tran has authored and coauthored a number of peer reviewed journal articles on occupational hygiene.

The Hazardous Materials Information Review Commission (HMIRC) is an independent agency accountable to Parliament through the Minister of Health. HMIRC works with stakeholders, including industry, labour and government, to help safeguard both workers and trade secrets in Canada's chemical industry.
