The Government of Canada will provide more than $2.6 million in funding over five years to help internationally educated health care professionals (IEHPs) to become licensed and practice in Saskatchewan. This funding supports two projects in Saskatchewan's health human resources strategy and addresses the challenge of attracting and retaining qualified health professionals.
The first project will improve access to quality health care services in Saskatchewan and support the retention of IEHPs by offering the tools and supports necessary to successfully bridge into their trained professions. This five-year project will be led by the Saskatoon Health Region in collaboration with the Province of Saskatchewan. The project will be integrated into a provincial Talent Management Framework by linking with other initiatives across the Province. The second project will enhance Saskatchewan's entry to practice assessment process for international medical graduates, which includes pre-screening, orientation and clinical field assessments.
These projects are funded under Health Canada's Internationally Educated Health Professionals Initiative, one of the key Government of Canada initiatives supporting the implementation of the
Pan-Canadian Framework for the Assessment and Recognition of Foreign Qualifications.
