News Release: Harper Government Announces Funding to Support Case Managers in the Health Care Sector

The Harper Government will provide funding of $309,800 over two years to the National Case Management Network (NCMN) for the organization to deliver the second phase of their case management project called Promoting Excellence and Professionalism for Case Management in Canada.

Over the next two years, the National Case Management Network will use the funding to:

  • develop and validate a standardized set of skills and knowledge in case management;
  • select a process for credentials in case management; and
  • raise awareness and improve understanding about the vital work that case managers do for individuals and their families.

This will build on Phase I of this project which was entitled, Developing Case Management in Canada: Standards of Practice, Learning Resources and Professional Association, which focused on promoting professionalism among case managers and was completed in fiscal year 2010-11.

As part of Phase I, the National Case Management Network:

  • distributed the 2009 Canadian Standards of Practice for Case Management;
  • provided an innovative educational venue for case managers though an on-line library;
  • initiated the development of a national competency profile; and
  • developed a national membership base.

Providing funding to help improve the case management approach to health care delivery enhances our health care system by:

  • helping individuals and families access the services and care they need;
  • increasing individualized care and levels of service;
  • improving individual health outcomes and overall satisfaction; and
  • improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the health care system.
