May 12, 2011
As Minister of Health, I am pleased to recognize May 12, 2011 as Canada Health Day.
Sponsored by the Canadian Healthcare Association and the Canadian Public Health Association, Canada Health Day provides us with an opportunity to highlight the significant contributions and successes of public health workers, community health organizations and health units across the country.
Strengthening Canada's capacity to protect and improve the health of Canadians is of utmost importance to our government. Together, we are working with our partners to build an effective public health system that enables Canadians to achieve better health and well-being in their daily lives. We remain committed to the promotion of good health, the prevention and control of chronic disease and injury, and to protecting Canadians from infectious diseases and other threats to their health.
As public health is a shared responsibility, it is important to recognize the value of public health programming and the health professionals who make them a success. On Canada Health Day, we demonstrate our respect and appreciation for these significant contributions.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, I commend public health workers across the country for their ongoing dedication to the health and well-being of all Canadians.
