Eligibility for the Pool

Type of Participants Health Canada is Looking For

We are looking for patients, consumers and caregivers from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, interest areas, age groups and various geographic regions of the country.

  • Patients are individuals who require or are under or were under medical care;
  • Consumers are individuals who purchase and use health products and food; and
  • Caregivers are unpaid individuals who attend to the needs of a child or dependent adult.

Pool participants will be selected based on the diversity of interests and perspectives they offer. While participants can be affiliated with a patient or consumer group, they are expected to represent their individual thoughts, opinions, experiences and views.

Eligibility

The Pool is open to anyone who:

  • has an interest in health product and food safety;
  • submits a completed application form including declaration of affiliations and interests;
  • is fluent in one of Canada’s two official languages;
  • is willing to participate in orientation training;
  • is willing to make a commitment to actively participate for at least two years; and
  • is 18 years of age or older and a Canadian citizen, Landed Immigrant or a Permanent Resident of Canada

Previous knowledge, education or experience in areas related to the topics at hand is not a prerequisite.

Exclusions

The Pool is not open to:

  • Current employees of Health Canada, Health Portfolio Agencies or related agencies (Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Pest Management Regulatory Agency, etc.); or
  • Currently elected members of provincial or federal parliament.

Security Clearance

Pool applicants interested in being considered for participation on External Advisory Committees (EACs) will be required to obtain security clearance at the time of nomination in accordance with the Next link will take you to another Web site Policy on Government Security. As opportunities arise to participate in EACs, Pool members will be invited and advised of next steps regarding security clearance.
