This programme supports and promotes community initiatives to prevent and reduce harm associated with the abuse of controlled substances through the administration of a contribution program. Its Drugs Analysis Service provides data from the analysis of drugs seized during police operations and shuts down clandestine laboratories.

Product Safety Programme

This programme is responsible for the inspection of consumer product safety and manages a compliance and enforcement programme. It provides information while increasing awareness and educating the public and various stakeholders of current safety standards and health risks and safety standards associated with children's products, consumer products such as household products (including chemical products), cosmetics (including personal care products) and new chemical substances.

Workplace Health and Public Safety Programme

This programme conducts evaluations and provides services to protect the occupational health and safety of federal workers, and the health of visiting dignitaries and the travelling public in Canada. It helps federal departments apply the Treasury Board Policy on Occupational Safety and Health and provides public health services, as well as employee assistance services.

Tobacco Control Programme

This programme regulates the manufacture, sale, labelling and promotion of tobacco products. It develops and implements initiatives to deter the use of tobacco products and oversees public education activities. It also administers a contribution program that supports community-based anti-smoking activities.

Safe Environments Programme

Smokestack

This programme conducts assessments and provides advice and opinions on the health impacts of projects subject to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and on implementation of the Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan. It contributes to regional preparedness for nuclear emergencies.
