The Natural and Non-prescription Health Products Directorate (NNHPD) administers a streamlined, efficient and transparent regulatory system that enhances consumer safety, reduces regulatory burden, fosters innovation and accountability, and helps deliver a variety of health options to Canadian families.

General enquiries regarding natural health products (NHPs), non-prescription products, product or site applications, licence status or corrections, etc., may be submitted to the NNHPD, by email to: NNHPD_DPSNSO@hc-sc.gc.ca.

Licensing

Product Licensing for NHPs

Applicants are strongly encouraged to enrol as Trading Partners and submit applications via the secure email delivery service epost Connect™ as this is the safest and most reliable method, as mentioned in the Management of Product Licence Applications for Natural Health Products guidance document. If this is not possible, the ePLA form and supporting documents may be submitted by mail or courier. In this scenario, applicants are encouraged to submit a CD or DVD containing the ePLA form and all supporting documents.

Natural Health Products Online Solution

The NHP Online Solution is a suite of secure electronic tools that allow for quicker drafting and processing of natural health product licence applications.

The suite of tools includes the electronic Product Licence Application Form (ePLA), the Natural Health Products Ingredient Database (NHPID), the electronic Submission Builder (eSB) and Trading Partner accounts.

Natural Health Products Ingredient Database (NHPID)

The NHPID is a repository of scientific terminologies and pre-cleared Information approved by the Natural and Non-prescription Health Products Directorate (NNHPD).

To request additions or modifications of ingredient information or controlled vocabulary to the NHPID, please use the Issue Form, and submit by email to: ingredient_support@hc-sc.gc.ca.
