Consumer Product Safety (CPS) works closely with industry, partners and stakeholders to protect consumers from product-related hazards and to promote the safe use of products. CPS is actively involved in injury prevention through promoting consumer awareness of product-related hazards. CPS also encourages the design of safer products for the Canadian market by providing importers and manufacturers with hazard information and technical information on regulatory requirements. CPS addresses the following hazards:

Research and tests performed by the Product Safety Laboratory support the development of standards and product safety regulations. These regulations, are enforced by Product Safety Officers who oversee inspections, investigations, seizures, recalls and prosecutions from the regional offices.
