The purpose of this letter is to advise you that effective immediately both new and used baby walkers are prohibited from being advertised, sold or imported in Canada. As of April 7, 2004 persons are required to cease the importation, sale and advertisement of baby walkers and accordingly they will not be able to sell any baby walkers they may currently have in stock. Modified baby walkers can not be sold and accordingly, baby walkers with the wheels removed and sold separately are also prohibited by the new legislation.
Definition of the prohibited product:
Baby walkers that are mounted on wheels or any other device permitting movement of the walker and that have an enclosed area supporting the baby in a sitting or standing position so that their feet touch the floor, thereby enabling the horizontal movement of the walker.
Details of the prohibition on baby walkers were published in
Part II of the Canada Gazette on April 7, 2004.
