Attachment: Information from Health Canada Concerning Suspended Baby Jumpers

Dear Manufacturer, Retailer or Importer of Suspended Baby Jumper Products:

The purpose of this letter is to advise you that Health Canada's Consumer Product Safety Bureau (CPSB) has recently developed criteria concerning the safety of suspended baby jumpers and your organization is hereby requested to only distribute products that, as a minimum, meet these criteria.

CPSB is responsible for the administration of the Hazardous Products Act (HPA) and its associated regulations. Specifically, the HPA grants the authority to prohibit or restrict the advertising, sale and importation into Canada of hazardous (or potentially hazardous) products. Currently, suspended baby jumpers are not regulated by the HPA and for this reason, the recently developed safety criteria do not constitute legally binding requirements. Nonetheless, in an effort to enhance the level of safety afforded to Canadian children, CPSB is seeking the voluntary cooperation of manufacturers, distributors and importers of suspended baby jumper products in adhering to both the labelling and performance recommendations that are described in the attached document entitled: Information from Health Canada Concerning Suspended Baby Jumpers. This information sheet may also be found at the following web address: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/cps-spc/legislation/pol/jumper-exerciseurs_suspendus-eng.php

I would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation with respect to this safety initiative and should you require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact your nearest Health Canada Regional Product Safety Office:
