Several industrial processes (e.g. paper pulp) and various end-products (e.g. paints and fuels) are the targets of infestations caused by bacteria, fungi, or invertebrates. Pesticides are one of the tools used to manage these problems.
Different stakeholder groups are based either on the type of product (e.g. manufacturers) or the uses of these products (e.g. transportation industry). In addition there are groups based on different types of stewardship programs that support the safe management of pesticides in the industrial sector (e.g. the Product Care Association and the Crop Life Stewardship Program).
To benefit the Industrial Material sector, Health Canada has dedicated staff that facilitates interactions between use sector associations, provincial and private pest management specialists, pesticide distributors, researchers, scientists, registrants and regulators to work towards reducing risks in pesticide use. The goal is to help pesticide users to better understand the regulatory system and best meet their pest control needs.
