Summary
This document provides the applicant, registrant and their representatives the functional and technical guidelines needed to use the Electronic Pesticide Regulatory System Secure Web Portal (e-PRS SWP).
The e-PRS SWP is a secure online system developed by the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA). It allows Information Providers the ability to securely conduct business with the PMRA using the Internet. The e-PRS SWP is designed to securely handle data being transmitted through its interface through the use of the Government of Canada's ePass Canada secure channel.
ePass is a service that gives Canadians the ability to obtain state-of-the-art secure electronic services from any Internet terminal in the world, using the convenience of a user ID and password. When registering for an ePass, users get a unique electronic credential that gives them access to online programs and services that require enhanced security measures, including digital signatures. As more Government of Canada programs and services become available online, it will be possible for users to choose to use one ePass to access multiple programs and services. The ePass account designates credentials to individuals by linking the user's private signing key, encryption keys as well as the digital signature verification certificate.
Along with the ePass account set-up, an e-PRS SWP account needs to be created through completion of the enrolment package. After this enrolment package is reviewed by the PMRA, an e-PRS SWP account Activation Key is sent to the enroller. When a user logs on to the e-PRS SWP through ePass for the first time, the activation key must be entered to confirm the user and complete the e-PRS SWP user account activation.
With the account creation through ePass and the activation key used for the e-PRS SWP, the PMRA is ensured that the user's digital authentication credentials are valid and mapped to an e-PRS SWP account. Each successive time a user attempts to log on to the e-PRS SWP, they are first directed to ePass Secure Channel, where they enter their ePass User ID and password. Once they are authenticated, they are then automatically redirected to the e-PRS SWP homepage.
