The Hazardous Products (Mattresses) Regulations require that all mattresses resist smouldering cigarette ignition. The manufacturer certifies compliance with that regulation, which substantially reduces the risk of a cigarette ignited fire, but does not make your mattress fireproof.

Fires can occur if the mattress, foundation or bedding comes into contact with an open flame, such as a match, lighter or candle. When ignited, some mattress filling materials can burn rapidly and emit hazardous gases.
