Under the authority of the Pest Control Products Act, Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has added a new use to the product label of Muster Toss-N-Go Herbicide, containing technical grade ethametsulfuron-methyl, for oilseed type oriental mustard. The specific use approved in Canada is detailed on the label of Muster Toss-N-Go Herbicide, Pest Control Products Act Registration Number 23569.
Corresponding maximum residue limits (MRLs) were proposed in the consultation document published on 7 August 2007, Proposed Maximum Residue Limit PMRL2007 07, Ethametsulfuron-methyl. The PMRA received no comments in response to this consultation.
To comply with Canada's international trade obligations, consultation on the proposed MRLs was also conducted internationally by notifying the World Trade Organization, as coordinated by the Standards Council of Canada. No comments were received as a result of the World Trade Organization consultation.
The following MRLs are legally in effect as of the publication date of this document and have either been revised or been added to the MRLs already established for ethametsulfuron-methyl.
Established and Revised Maximum Residue Limits for Ethametsulfuron-methyl
Common Chemical Name: Ethametsulfuron-methyl
Chemical Name of Substance: methyl 2-[[[[[4-ethoxy-6- (methylamino)-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl] amino]carbonyl]amino]sulfonyl]benzoate
Food Commodity / MRL parts per million (ppm)
Oriental mustard seeds* (oilseed type) / 0.02
Mustard seeds* (condiment type) / 0.05
* Both seed types were previously covered by the MRL of 0.05 ppm established for "mustard seeds" in the Established Maximum Residue Limit document EMRL2008-02, Transitioning the Legal Establishment of Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for Pesticides from the Food and Drugs Act to the Pest Control Products Act: Establishment of MRLs. The MRL was established to support the labelled condiment mustard use (brown and oriental only) but this was not specified. The commodity descriptor is revised to clearly indicate that the existing MRL applies only to condiment type mustard seeds and a new MRL is established for oilseed type oriental mustard seeds.
A complete list of all MRLs established in Canada can be found on the PMRA's MRL webpage.
