Under the authority of the Pest Control Products Act, Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has revised previously established maximum residue limits (MRLs) for metalaxyl.

These revised MRLs, pertaining to ruminant kidney, were proposed in the consultation document published on 1 November 2007, Proposed Maximum Residue Limit PMRL2007-14, Metalaxyl. The PMRA received no comments in response to this consultation.

To comply with Canada's international trade obligations, consultation on the proposed MRLs was also conducted internationally by notifying the World Trade Organization, as coordinated by the Standards Council of Canada. No comments were received as a result of the World Trade Organization consultation.

The following revised MRLs are legally in effect as of the publication date of this document and are in addition to the MRLs already established for metalaxyl.

Established Maximum Residue Limits for Metalaxyl

Common Name: Metalaxyl

Residue Definition: N-(2,6-dimethylphenyl)-N (methoxyacetyl)- DL-alanine methyl ester, including metabolites that can be converted to the 2,6-dimethylaniline moiety, each expressed as metalaxyl equivalents

Food Commodity / MRL parts per million (ppm)

Kidney of cattle, goats, hogs, horses and sheep (MRLs of 0.7 ppm were previously established for ruminant and poultry kidney in the Established Maximum Residue Limit document EMRL2008-02, Transitioning the Legal Establishment of Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for Pesticides from the Food and Drugs Act to the Pest Control Products Act: Establishment of MRLs. Ruminant kidney MRLs are revised as a result of this action but the MRL of 0.7 ppm remains in effect for poultry kidney.) / 0.85]
