Under the authority of the Pest Control Products Act, Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has granted full registration to technical grade spirotetramat and the end-use products Movento 240 SC Insecticide and Movento 150 OD Insecticide for use in Canada on tuberous and corm vegetables (Crop Subgroup 1C), leafy vegetables (Crop Groups 4 and 5), fruiting vegetables (Crop Group 8), cucurbit vegetables (Crop Group 9), pome fruits (Crop Group 11), stone fruits (Crop Group 12), small vine climbing fruits (Crop Subgroup 13-07F), tree nuts (Crop Group 14) and hops. See Appendix I for a list of crop group and subgroup commodities. The specific uses approved in Canada are detailed on the product labels of Movento 240 SC Insecticide and Movento 150 OD Insecticide, Pest Control Products Act Registration Numbers 28953 and 28954, respectively.

Corresponding maximum residue limits (MRLs) for spirotetramat were proposed in the consultation document published on 29 May 2008, Proposed Maximum Residue Limit PMRL2008-19, Spirotetramat. The PMRL also included proposed import MRLs for spirotetramat on citrus fruits (Crop Group 10; see Appendix I), citrus oil, dry bulb onions and strawberries to permit the import and sale of food containing these residues. The PMRA received no comments in response to this consultation.

To comply with Canada's international trade obligations, consultation on the proposed MRLs was also conducted internationally by notifying the World Trade Organization, as coordinated by the Standards Council of Canada. No comments were received as a result of the World Trade Organization consultation.

It should be noted that the English and French PMRL documents published on 29 May 08 did not correctly align the residue definitions with their corresponding commodities in Table 1. These have now been accurately aligned in the table below. In addition, the French PMRL proposed MRLs for pome fruits (0.7 ppm) and stone fruits (4.5 ppm) under the correct crop group number but the pome/stone fruits group names were reversed in Table 1, thereby creating a discrepancy with respect to the group name and number designation. This has now been corrected in the table of established MRLs in the French version of the EMRL document.

The following MRLs for spirotetramat are legally in effect as of the publication date of this document.
