Under the authority of the Pest Control Products Act, Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has granted full registration to technical grade flucarbazone-sodium and the end-use products Everest 70 WDG Herbicide and Everest Solupak 70 DF for use on wheat. The specific use approved in Canada is detailed on the product labels of Everest 70 WDG Herbicide and Everest Solupak 70DF, Pest Control Products Act Registration Numbers 26447 and 26448, respectively.

A maximum residue limit (MRL) is already established for wheat but corresponding livestock MRLs were proposed in the consultation document published on 25 November 2008, Proposed Maximum Residue Limit PMRL2008-47, Flucarbazone-sodium. The PMRA received no comments in response to this consultation.

To comply with Canada's international trade obligations, consultation on the proposed MRLs was also conducted internationally by notifying the World Trade Organization, as coordinated by the Standards Council of Canada. No comments were received as a result of the World Trade Organization consultation.

The following MRLs are legally in effect as of the publication date of this document and are in addition to the MRL on wheat already established for flucarbazone-sodium.

Established Maximum Residue Limits for Flucarbazone-Sodium
Common Name Residue Definition MRL (ppm) Food Commodity
Flucarbazone-sodium 4,5-dihydro-3-methoxy-4-methyl- 5-oxo-N-[[2-(trifluoromethoxy) phenyl]sulfonyl]-1H-1,2,4-triazole-
1-carboxamide, sodium salt1
0.05 Liver of cattle, goats, hogs, horses and sheep
0.01 Eggs; meat and meat byproducts (except liver) of cattle, goats, hogs, horses and sheep; meat and meat byproducts of poultry
0.0025 Milk

A complete list of all MRLs established in Canada can be found on the Maximum Residue Limits for Pesticides webpage in the Pesticides and Pest Management section of Health Canada's website.

1 The residue definition for flucarbazone-sodiumis also revised to reflect parent only in accordance with the above table. The previous residue definition for wheat included a metabolite, 4,5-dihydro-3-methoxy-5- oxo-N-[[2-(trifluoromethoxy)phenyl] sulfonyl]-1H-1,2,4-triazole-1-carboxamide, sodium salt, which is not found in human food commodities and has therefore been removed from the residue definition.
