Research Program

The aim of the Centre for Biologics Research (CBR) is to provide an understanding of the most recent scientific advances and issues to assist in regulatory decision making and stewardship. The Centre provides this expertise in order to achieve one of the BGTD's primary objectives: to ensure the quality, safety, and efficacy of biological and radiopharmaceutical drugs and other therapies.

The CBR develops and maintains excellence via participation in internationally recognized, peer reviewed research, academic collaborations, international collaboration and joint research projects, and by building partnerships with other research and regulatory organizations in Canada and abroad.

The Centre for Biologics Research's activities are organized under the direction of Dr. Alan Mortimer:

Projects and Publications

CBR's research capacity includes a synergistic group, capable of addressing pertinent scientific issues, such as:

  • Molecular therapeutics
  • Pharmacogenetics
  • Modulation of immunity and infection
  • Molecular Diagnostics and Risk Assessment
  • Immunological risk assessment
  • Mechanisms of coagulation and fibrinolysis
  • Protein chemistry and proteomics
  • Analytical chemistry and biotechnology
  • Biospectroscopy

Collaborative projects have allowed for enhanced efforts in the areas of Blood Research, Biotechnology, and Genomics.

Presently, the Centre for Biologics Research is comprised of four biostatisticians, ten research scientists, twenty-eight technicians, and a number of graduate students, university students (summer students and CO-OP terms), as well as, volunteer students from university and college programs.
