Laboratory Programme

The Health Products and Food Branch Inspectorate (Inspectorate) Laboratory Programme provides chemical, physical and microbiological analytical support to inspection, investigation and surveillance activities of the Inspectorate. The Laboratory Programme Laboratories are located in two installations in two cities, Toronto (Ontario) and Longueuil (Quebec) and provide analytical services to inspectors located in the five Inspectorate Operational Centres across the country (Dartmouth, Longueuil, Toronto, Winnipeg and Burnaby) and to the Inspectorate Ottawa (IO) located in Ottawa. The Laboratory Programme also provides support to other Directorates of the Health Products and Food Branch (HPFB).

Core Activities

  • provide analytical laboratory services in support of inspections, investigations and surveillance activities of the Inspectorate;
  • provide assurance that Inspectorate laboratories comply with internationally recognized quality standards in order to support Mutual Recognition Agreements and other international agreements;
  • collaborate with international partners on method development, method validation and quality systems for laboratories.
