The medication-use process map can be broken down into the key communication points to be tested in the simulation. In this example, the prescribing, dispensing, administration and monitoring components are primarily where the product name is used.

Prescribing
Patient visits community pharmacy looking for sinus medication (has allergies)
Patient may (1) self-select a product or (2) may seek assistance from the Pharmacist.

Pharmacist makes recommendation

Dispensing
Whether the Patient self-selects or has received assistance from the Pharmacist, the Patient selects product from shelf.
Medication is sold to Patient

Administration
Patient takes medication at home

Monitoring
Patient assesses their response to the medication
