Veterinary Drugs Directorate's consultation with stakeholders on the proposed draft definition of a Veterinary Natural Health Product.

Consultation closed

The Veterinary Drugs Directorate (VDD) plans to launch a three month web-based consultation on the draft definition of Veterinary Natural Health Products (vNHP) beginning August 3, 2007, as a necessary step in the development of an appropriate regulatory framework for vNHPs. Currently, most natural health products for veterinary use are considered to be new drugs and are regulated under Division 8 of the Food and Drug Regulations. This current regulatory framework is not appropriate for this relatively lower risk category of products. Therefore VDD is developing a new regulatory framework for vNHPs. This consultation on the draft definition will be the first in a series of consultations with stakeholders, whose input will be sought throughout the development of the regulatory framework for vNHPs.
