Description of the Sample Datasheet - Rails Fully Raised or Rails Intermediate Position

These images show a hospital bed with arrows labelling the appropriate zones. These sheets may be used to document the Pass/Fail of the Zone tests.

  • Head Board: Location directly before the end of the mattress where the patient will lay their head
  • Foot Board: Location directly after the end of the mattress where the patient will place their feet
  • Rails Fully Raised: Rails positioned above the top of the mattress
  • Rails Intermediate Position: Rails positioned in line with the top of the mattress
  • Zone 1: Area within the rail
  • Zone 2: Area under the rail between the rail supports or next to a single rail support
  • Zone 3: Area between the edge of the mattress and the inside of the rail
  • Zone 4: Area between the top of the mattress compressed by the patient and the lower-most portion of the rail at the end of the rail
  • Zone 5: Area between split bed rails
  • Zone 6: Area between the end of the rail and the side edge of the head or foot board
  • Zone 7: Area between the head or foot board and the mattress end
