Dr. Bob Bernhardt (2012-2014)
Dr. Bob Bernhardt has served as President of the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) since 2004. His previous roles, in a variety of post-secondary educational institutions, include Faculty, Dean, Director of Planning, Director of Strategic Planning, Vice-President and "Corporate Change Leader." He has also served as Director of Education for the Law Society of Upper Canada, where he was responsible for Ontario's bar admission process, continuing legal education and lawyer specialist certification. Dr. Bernhardt has an academic background spanning science, information systems, education, administrative law and leadership in higher education. He has led the creation of new post-secondary education departments overseas, consulted on teacher education programs in the Middle East, and served as the President of the International Association of Accredited Naturopathic Medical Colleges. He serves on the Board of Learning for a Sustainable Future, a charity dedicated to promoting sustainability through improved education across Canada.
Mr. John Blaževic (2012-2014)
Mr. John Blaževic is the current chair of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia and is a board member of the Canadian Alliance of Regulatory Bodies for Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists. He graduated as a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1999 and is currently a Registered Acupuncturist in B.C. Mr. Blaževic subsequently studied in JiangYin TCM Hospital as part of his practicum and then apprenticed in Japan for the following 5 years, studying TCM classical theories. Mr. Blaževic holds a B.Sc. from the University of Waterloo and a B.A in Psychology and Philosophy from Lakehead University. He has served as President of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Association of British Columbia and board member and co-founder of UTCM ("One Voice"). He operates his own clinic (Little Mountain Heath Clinic) in Vancouver, B.C., treating patients with acupuncture and moxibustion. Mr. Blaževic teaches students about TCM theory, acupuncture and moxibustion.
Mr. Albert Fok (2012-2014)
Mr. Albert Fok is the President of the Vancouver Chinatown Business Improvement Area Society. He is also the owner and operator of Kiu Shun Trading Co., Ltd. in Vancouver B.C. which specializes in Traditional Chinese herbs. Mr. Fok has life-long experience in Traditional Chinese bulk herbs; he is the fourth generation in this trade. He was a member of the first Advisory Panel on Natural Health Products and has made several presentations to the federal Standing Committee of Health on issues pertaining to the proper regulation of Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCMs) in Canada. He was a member of the Transition Team that assisted with the founding of the Natural Health Products Directorate, during which period he drafted a guidance paper on TCMs for the directorate. Mr. Fok was also a member of NHPD's Expert Advisory Committee, the Industry Liaison Committee and the Management Advisory Committee.
Ms. Nancy Ming Lan Hsu (2012-2014)
Ms. Nancy Ming Lan Hsu works for T&T Supermarket Inc. as Project Manager in the Strategy & Operations Department of the CEO Office. On July 4, 2012, T&T Supermarket launched "Be Beauty by T&T," the chain's first Health and Beauty concept store, which includes the chain's first pharmacy. Ms. Hsu has worked for T&T Supermarket since her immigration to Canada in 2004. Since then, she has been interested in understanding the rules and regulations governing the importation and sale of food, health and beauty products. Ms. Hsu graduated from Capilano College in 1992 with a Diploma of Retail and Merchandising Management.
Dr. Susan Nai Wah Kho (2012-2014)
Dr. Susan Nai Wah Kho is a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine specializing in internal medicine. She graduated from the Beijing Union University School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacology, Beijing. She is a member of the Canadian Association of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, and is currently a board member of the Federation of Ontario Traditional Chinese Medicine Associations. She is currently serving as Vice Secretary-General and Director of Communications for the board.
Dr. John Yung-chou Lee (2012-2014)
Dr. John Yung-chou Lee is a registered Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Dr. TCM) and an Acupuncturist in the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta. He practices at Lee's Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture Clinic in Burnaby, B.C. As a Dr. TCM with 35 years of clinical experience, he provides health care services, specializing in TCM internal and mental health as well as TCM herbal extracts and acupuncture. Dr. Lee holds a PhD in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine (China), where he is also appointed as a visiting professor. He is a Board Director and Chair of the Advisory Committee of the British Columbia Qualified Acupuncturists and TCM Practitioners Association. He is also the former President of the British Columbia Qualified Acupuncturists and TCM Practitioners Association (QATCMA) (2008-2010) and the National Traditional Chinese Medicine Association of Canada (2003-2005) as well as the co-founder of the Canadian Coalition of TCM and Acupuncture Associations (CCTAA). Dr. Lee is dedicated, and has contributed, to TCM health professions community for more than 15 years, developing TCM as a natural, safe, effective and affordable health care to the benefit of the public in Canada.
Dr. Tai-Joon Lee (2012-2014)
Dr. Tai-Joon Lee is the founder, acupuncturist and Oriental Medicine Doctor of Hankook Health Center in Mississauga. He holds a Master's and a Ph.D. in Oriental Medicine. Born and raised in South Korea, he has always been passionate about Oriental medicine. Dr. Tai-Joon Lee volunteers as an Oriental Medicine Doctor for local charities as well as abroad on yearly trips to Mongolia and other developing countries in the world. He has held positions as Chairman of the Korean Canadian Herbalist and Acupuncturist Association of Ontario and, most recently, as Dean of Central College (Toronto Campus). Dr. Tai-Joon Lee is dedicated to the safe and up-to-date practice of Oriental Medicine in Canada and abroad.
Dr. Nian-Dong Lei (2012-2014)
Dr. Nian-Dong Lei is a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Dr. TCM) at Herb & Health Care (HHC). He came to Herb & Health Care after over 20 years of service for the Shaanxi Provincial Branch of Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Shaanxi CDC), where he served as Deputy Director Doctor and Senior Epidemiologist for communicable and non-communicable diseases. He provided HHC treatments for weight loss, lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, lower sugar, arthritis and other health issues. At Shaanxi CDC, his roles also included: launching the Xi'an Center of the World Health Organization Diabetes Mellitus Research, Training and Registration program; working on registration, survey and molecular epidemiology research for DIAMOND on Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (IDDM); conducting the 8 Sexual Transmitted Disease survey; studying the control and prevention for bacillary dysentery; studying atypical pneumonia; and conducting an adult new rotor viral diarrhea survey. Dr. Lei also served as Chairman of the Education Section of the XVI International Scientific Meeting of the International Epidemiological Association (IEA), Nagoya, Japan (Aug. 1996), and Co-chairman at the 1994 Annual Meeting of the International Clinical Epidemiology Network (INCLEN), IEA Section, Thailand. He is currently serving as Secretary of Shaanxi Provincial Epidemiology Association since 1997. He has published over 30 papers in scientific journals on a variety of topics, including: an assessment of the efficacy of slim herb capsule for weight loss; the investigation and control of typhoid fever; a sero-epidemiology survey for hepatitis E; diabetes; and high-risk factors analysis for paralysis outbreak and etiology investigation and control.
Mr. Jack (Guixian) Li (2012-2014)
Mr. Jack (Guixian) Li is the President of Oriental Food Mart, which operates 7 food retail stores and one distribution centre in Toronto since 1996. He has a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Civil Engineering and is a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO). Mr. Li is involved in many community activities. He is currently President of the Chinese Business Chamber of Canada and President of Fuqing Community Association of Canada.
Dr. Jia Li (2012-2014)
Dr. Jia Li is the President of the Ontario Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine Examination Committee. He has 20 years of experience as a Traditional Chinese Medicine specialist and has a practice in Mississauga, Ontario. He graduated from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China, in 1992. He did postgraduate work in Systems Physiology at the University of Occupational & Environmental Health, Kitakyushu, Japan, in Neurophysiology at the Royal Free Hospital & School of Medicine, London, UK, as well as in Immunocytochemistry at University College, London, UK. He taught Clinical Acupuncture at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, Ontario, and also instructed Asian Medicine at Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, Toronto, Ontario. He was appointed to the Advisory Committee on Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture for the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (2003). Dr. Jia Li was the recipient of Her Majesty The Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2003.
Mr. John (Xiaojun) Li (2012-2014)
Mr. John (Xiaojun) Li is a manager at Easy TCM Ltd., located in Ontario. He is responsible for marketing Chinese herbal extract products in Canada since 2009. He is widely connected with TCM practitioners and routinely provides nation-wide service to them. He is also a Registered Nutrition Councillor with a passion for helping people keep an optimal healthy lifestyle. He worked in global supply chain management in the chemicals and automobile fields at Tomen Canada Inc. and Toyota Tsusho Canada Inc. respectively, from 2001 to 2008. He has over 10 years of international business experience, including a deep involvement between the North American and Chinese markets in various industries. He received a B.A. degree in World Economics in Tianjin University of Finance and Economics, China, in 1987.
Mr. Stephen Shiji Liu (2012-2014)
Mr. Stephen Shiji Liu is a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner. He graduated from Toronto International Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture (TIITCMA), and currently serves as Co-Chair and Secretary-General of the Federation of Ontario Traditional Chinese Medicine Associations.
Ms. Marylou Lombardi (2012-2014)
Ms. Marylou Lombardi is a registered massage therapist and practitioner of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in Guelph, Ontario. She has been a healthcare practitioner in private practice since 1985. Since 2000, she has been a teacher and curriculum consultant for the Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Toronto/Brampton, Ontario. Currently, she is a writer of Acupuncture Competency Standards for the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. From 1998 to 2001, she was Vice-President of the Ontario Association of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine at which time she was in charge of organizing and drafting the referral submission for the regulation of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in Ontario; she was then elected President of the Ontario Association of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine and served from 2001-2008 during which time she was actively involved with the Regulation of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in Ontario. Although no longer on the board of the Ontario Association of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, she has been, and still is an active member in good standing since 1997.
Mr. Eddie Lui (2012-2014)
Mr. Eddie Lui studied Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Canada. To enhance his work pursuing the modern viability of acupuncture and ancient formulations, he continued training in biotechnology and microbiology. His ethic is that TCM is an effective, cost-efficient discipline of healing, and he supports consumers having access to a wide range of natural health products that are safe, effective and of high quality. His professional activities include TCM practice and quality assurance work specialized in TCM. He is a present member of the board directors of the Chamber of Chinese Herbal Medicine of Canada and a former member of the Canadian Academy of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. Mr. Lui is a regular participant in industry bilateral meetings with the Natural Health Products Directorate.
Dr. Jenny (JianPing) Shi (2012-2014)
Dr. Jenny (JianPing) Shi is a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at her private practice in Toronto since 1997. She is a disciple of renowned TCM professor, Dr Zhenhua Wang at Hubei TCM University in Wuhan, China. She worked with Professor Wang in clinical practice for many years. Her professional experiences involve multiple areas of TCM and extend to western medicine research. She was a principle investigator of the Natural Medicine Research Project 77918 funded by the World Health Organization from 1984 to 1988. She was an associate professor of Clinical Pharmacology at Tongji Medical University, which is one of the clinical trial bases established by the Chinese Ministry of Health. Dr. Shi immigrated to Canada 15 years ago. At present, she is devoted to disease prevention, healthy lifestyle advocacy, and education. She successfully treats mental ailments, dermatological diseases, and infertility with herbs, acupuncture and food therapy.
Mr. Daniel Wai-Cheong Sin (2012-2014)
Mr. Daniel Wai-Cheong Sin is a Professional Engineer and a Certified Information Security Management (CISM) professional. He is the founder of Cyctek Inc., a natural health product importer and regulatory services provider. He has 20 years of experience in technologies and their quality management. Trained in Good Management Practices, Mr. Sin has been working in the area of natural health product quality management and regulatory affairs since 2005. He is a regulatory consultant for TCM importer United Wings Enterprise, and a consultant and member of the board of directors for Kela Medical Inc. Mr. Sin has a Bachelor and Master of Applied Science from the University of Toronto. Additionally, he graduated from the Richard Ivey Executive MBA program (IVEY) from the University of Western Ontario in 2004.
Dr. John Stan (2012-2014)
Dr. John Stan graduated from the Canadian College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Victoria, B.C., in 1988 and earned his licence as a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Dr. TCM). While growing his private practice over the years, he has actively participated in professional acupuncture and TCM organizations which contributed to the recognition of TCM and acupuncture as health professions within British Columbia in 1996. Since the regulation of TCM and Acupuncture in B.C., he continues to remain active in regulatory affairs and is a member of the Quality Assurance Committee for the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncturists. In addition to his professional activities, he founded Eastern Currents Distributing in 1993 with the mandate of importing and distributing quality acupuncture and professional TCM herbal products. Eastern Currents has grown to be one of Canada's largest importers of pre-prepared herbal medicines and services health professionals across Canada.
Mr. Hui Dong Wang (2012-2014)
Mr. Hui Dong Wang is the founder and President of United Wings Enterprise Inc., which specializes in the importation, marketing and wholesale of Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine. In 2006, he founded Pharma Herb Inc. which concentrates on the importation and distribution of natural health products. He is a long-time member of the Chamber of Chinese Herbal Medicine of Canada, which has relentlessly promoted the role of Traditional Chinese Medicine for healthy living in Canada. Mr. Wang previously was elected as Secretary of the Chamber and served on the Board of Directors, before becoming Vice President in 2008. A graduate of Guangdong Vocational College of Finance and Economics, Mr. Wang has over 20 years of experience in the sourcing, importation, distribution and marketing of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Mr. Edwin C. H. Wung (2012-2014)
Mr. Edwin C. H. Wung has more than 25 years of experience as the founder and Director of the Chamber of Chinese Herbal Medicine of Canada (CCHMC). He is also the owner and President of Wing Tai Hong Trading Co. Ltd., a successful Chinese herbal medicine business in Toronto. His expertise in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) includes import and export, wholesale and retail, making him a leading resource for supplying TCM products to consumers in Canada. His wealth of experience in TCM has provided him with an extensive knowledge of thousands of TCM products and each of their distinct characteristics and of the regulatory requirements related to the industry. Mr. Wung holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Queens University and is also a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
Dr. Sherry (Xueping) Yin (2012-2014)
Dr. Sherry (Xueping) Yin graduated from Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1991, with the honour of being the first female PhD recipient of TCM. She has over 30 years of clinical experience as a specialist of TCM and acupuncture, which includes running a successful clinic for the past 14 years in Toronto, as well as working with various clinics, both in Shandong, China and in Philadelphia, United States. In addition to her career success, Dr. Yin has been an active member of the Greater Toronto Area as a volunteer for numerous years. Her contributions include serving as advisor of family and women's health for the Chinese Professional Women of Canada since 1998, and as President of the Committee of Certified Acupuncturists of Ontario since 2006.
Dr. James Xiao-Ning Yuan (2012-2014)
Dr. James Xiao-Ning Yuan is the President of the Canadian Association of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. He also serves as President of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine & Pharmacology Canada, Professor of Capital Medical University (Beijing), and Vice President of the Cardiovascular Disease Profession Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, and is a member of the Medical Sensations National Advisory Committee of Science and Technology Museums Corporation Canada. Dr. Yuan completed his studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at Capital Medical University in 1978, and from 1978 to 1992, he worked as Dr. TCM and Doctor in Chief in the emergency ward of Beijing Gulou Chinese Medicine Hospital. Dr. Yuan is the author of several publications on TCM, including vice editor of Clinical Acupuncture Treatment (1991) and of Principles and Practice of Chinese Medicine in the West (2003).
Dr. Daping Zhang (2012-2014)
Dr. Daping Zhang has 40 years of experience in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and acupuncture. He graduated from the Beijing Capital Medical University, School of TCM in 1978 and was conferred specialist of acupuncture in 1983. From 1978 to 1992, he served as Resident, Chief Resident, Doctor in charge and Vice Director at the Beijing Hospital of TCM. As Director of the Acupuncture Department in the 11th Asian Games Medical Center in 1990, he was nicknamed "Mystical Needle Zhang" by athletes because of the outstanding efficacy of his sports injuries and acute pain treatments, and he was praised by the Organizing Committee and Beijing Municipal Government. From 1992 to 1998, he worked in Greece, first teaching TCM, acupuncture, and ancient Chinese philosophy as a visiting professor at the University of Athens and later practising in an Athens acupuncture clinic where he provided a large number of treatments to help patients overcome drug addictions. Since 1998, he has been practising TCM and acupuncture in Toronto and served as a Director of the Canadian Association of Acupuncture and TCM. Dr. Zhang has published several articles in scientific journals on acupuncture and TCM.
Dr. Mona Xiaobo Zhang (2012-2014)
Dr. Mona Xiaobo Zhang completed her studies in western medicine in China and she started her practice as a physician in a hospital department of heart and kidney in China in 1975. She then continued her education and practice as a Surgeon of Ophthalmology as well as an E.N.T. Specialist. In 1984, she branched out to study Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Acupuncture directly under top TCM and acupuncture doctors, gaining a broad education in TCM. In 1990, Dr. Zhang immigrated to Canada where she established her practice as Doctor of TCM and acupuncture. Since 1997, she has expanded her studies to the new science of Nutritional Immunology as a prevention science. She specializes in combining ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine wisdom and techniques with western medical philosophy. Her approach is holistic, focusing on prevention education and anti-aging treatment.
