List of Licensed Natural Health Products

The List of Licensed Natural Health Products has been removed from the Health Canada website so that the Natural Health Products Directorate (NHPD) may focus its efforts on completing its Licensed Natural Health Products Database (LNHPD).

Once available, the LNHPD will enable users to quickly and easily search for information on natural health products (NHPs) that have been issued a product licence (i.e. NPN or DIN-HM). This will include information on: authorized health claims, medicinal and non-medicinal ingredients and risk information. Furthermore, the LNHPD will provide stakeholders more accurate and up-to-date information as it will be updated on a daily basis as opposed to monthly.

Health Canada anticipates launching the LNHPD in summer 2008. Until then, stakeholders seeking further information on licensed natural health products are invited to write to the Natural Health Products Directorate (NHPD) at NHPD_DPSN@hc-sc.gc.ca.  For general statistics on the number of licence applications received and processed by Health Canada, please refer to the NHPD's Status of Submissions Reports.

Once the LNHPD is ready for public use, notification will be sent via the NHPD's Electronic Bulletin.

Identifying NHPs that have been licensed for sale

NHPs that have been licensed for sale in Canada will bear a DIN, NPN or DIN-HM on the label, followed by an eight-digit number (e.g. NPN 12345678).

The presence of a DIN, NPN or DIN-HM means that the product has been authorized for sale in Canada and is safe and effective when used in accordance with the instructions on the label.
