What is the DPD Data Extract?

The following material originates with an organization not subject to the  Official Languages Act and is available on this site in the language in which it was written.

Help on accessing alternative formats, such as Portable Document Format (PDF), Microsoft Word and PowerPoint (PPT) files, can be obtained in the alternate format help section.

The data extract is a series of compressed ASCII text files of the database. The uncompressed size of the files is approximately 65 MB. In order to utilize the data, the file must be loaded into an existing database or information system. The typical user is most likely a third party claims adjudicator, provincial formulary, insurance company, etc. For a casual user to use this file, they must be familiar with database structure and capable of setting up their own queries. The "Read me" file contains the data structure required to download the zipped files.

The DPD extract files have been updated. They contain complete product information for all discontinued (inactivated) products. The product information available for discontinued (inactivated) products will be the same as the one we have been providing for marketed (active) products in the extract files.

In addition to the new information available for all discontinued (inactivated) products, the previous "inactive.txt" extract will remain available to users and will not be removed.
