This report was commissioned by the Natural Health Products Directorate (Health Canada) to provide background reading for participants invited to attend a two-day conference to discuss natural health product/drug interactions and provide recommendations to the Directorate with respect to future initiatives in this area. The proceedings and recommendations from this conference will be available from the Natural Health Products Directorate (Health Canada) in the spring of 2002. The conference is scheduled for January 2002.

Please note: On April 1, 2002, the Marketed Health Products Directorate (MHPD) was created within the Health Products and Food Branch. The important role played by the MHPD in the monitoring and reporting of drug interactions with natural health products means that some of the information related to health systems is dated and may no longer be accurate.
