The Consumer and Clinical Radiation Protection Bureau is conducting a national consultation of a new draft Safety Code on Mammography. This document has been developed to provide guidance to Canadian mammography facilities on radiation protection and quality standards. It reflects current equipment technology and international quality standards for mammography. Specific guidance is provided on personnel qualifications and responsibilities, facility and equipment requirements and on mammography quality assurance programs.

Once finalized, this Safety Code will replace both the existing Safety Code 33 (1995) and the Canadian Mammography Quality Guidelines (2002).

Your comments and suggestions on the draft Safety Code are welcomed. Interested Canadians will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed Safety Code starting July 15, 2011. The comment period will close on October 31, 2011.
