We also carry out assessments of situations where ionizing radiation may have an impact on the general public. This includes major projects, such as the construction of nuclear facilities, which are assessed under the
Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. An important component of our work is the setting of guidelines for radioactivity in food and drinking water and for levels of radon gas in homes and public buildings. We provide advice on radiological matters to other government departments and international organizations.
