I am interested in becoming a counsellor with Employee Assistance Services? How can I apply?

All contracted mental health professional counsellors must have the following qualifications:

  • Be a member "in good standing" of a recognized, mental health professional association or college which offers an accredited registration to its members
  • Have a Masters Degree or equivalent in social science such as Social work, Psychology or Counselling
  • Have a minimum of five (5) years of counselling experience
  • Have an established private practice for the delivery of counselling services with a confidential voicemail
  • Have minimum liability insurance $2, 000,000 per claim
  • Successfully pass the Federal Government Security Clearance process
  • Undergo a reference verification
  • Provide references and proof of education, liability insurance and professional association membership

Due to the volume of requests for employment received, EAS cannot acknowledge receipt of applications. EAS will follow up with you should our network of counsellors require additional resources in your geographic area.

Could you please send me some of your EAP promotional items?

Requests for EAP promotional material should be directed to your internal EAP contact. If you don't know who your EAP contact is, your Pay and Benefits officer may be in a position to provide you with that information.

I own a small privately owned business? Can I call EAS to purchase EAP or other related-type of service?

EAS is a not-for-profit, cost-recovery organization that operates within Health Canada to enhance organizational health and employee wellness within the federal government. Private sector organization can perform an internet search using the keywords "employee assistance programs in Canada' to seek private sector resources that may offer information as well as services similar to those provided by EAS.

I am a cost-centre manager working within a federal organization and interested in purchasing Organizational Health Services through your Specialized Organizational Services (SOS). How do I go about doing this?

You may also want to check with the appropriate contacts within your organization to ensure that the service that you are seeking is not currently offered, internally.

Otherwise, we would be pleased to assist you with the understanding that SOS is a service offered on a cost-recovery basis.

I need an ergonomic assessment: Can you help me?

EAS does not provide ergonomic assessments. Please speak with your Occupational Health and Safety officer (or your immediate supervisor or manager) for more information on how to proceed with a request for an ergonomic assessment.

How can I replace my lost Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certificate?

Unfortunately, your request falls outside the scope of EAS' activities. My work environment is unsafe: what can I do to protect myself?

Can I get psychological (or psycho-educational) assessments through my EAP?

EAS does not provide psychological assessments. For this type of service, you will require a referral from your physician or specialist, to a psychologist. Also, you may want to enquire about your level of coverage, and clarify the process with your insurer.

Please note that EAS' Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers short-term psychosocial counselling with a focus on problem resolution.
