Cooperation with Brazil
Training of staff
The Human Monitoring Laboratory (HML) trained one Brazilian scientist in 1990. The emphasis was on lung and whole body counting.
Collaborative Research
The HML and Commissao Nacional de Energia Nuclear (CNEN) collaborated to determine the effect of summing photopeaks within a spectrum on the minimum detectable activity (MDA). The method tried using natural Uranium, improved the MDA by a factor of two.
Whole Body Intercomparison Programme
In 1993 and 1996 Brazil has participated in the National Calibration Reference Centre for Bioassay and In Vivo Monitoring [NCRC] Whole Body Counting Intercomparison programme.
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Health Canada and the Commissao Nacional de Energia Nuclear
A MOU was signed April 1999, between Health Canada and the CNEN located in Rio de Janeiro. Both parties have agreed to the MOU for the following purposes:
- Formally establish scientific cooperation and inter-institutional relationships.
- Exchange data and information.
- Develop collaboratively improved calibrations for in vivo counting.
- Collaborate in development of improved techniques and technology for assessing internal burdens and doses.
- Generally broaden the scientific experience of both parties.
