The Human Monitoring Laboratory (HML) is a world leader in In Vivo measurements research and integral part of the National Calibration Reference Centre for Bioassay and In Vivo Monitoring (NCRC) which is committed to improving workplace safety by providing high quality intercomparison programs for the measurement of internal radiation exposures of workers.
Other activities the HML is engaged include research into the accuracy of In Vivo measurements and the factors that influence the result, phantom design and fabrication, methodology improvements to improve sensitivity. The HML also has an expanded role in emergency response in support of Canada's Federal Nuclear Emergency Plan (FNEP) and Counter Terrorism response. Research is achieved by the HML alone or in collaboration with other national or international organisations. Additionally the HML provides advice and assistance (including training) to other groups, In Vivo monitoring of individuals who have been potentially contaminated with radionuclides, and Internal dose assessments as and when required.
