The Phantoms

Phantoms for Lung Monitoring

The Lung Intercomparison Program, uses two highly anthropomorphic phantoms to evaluate the performance of a lung monitoring facility. The phantoms are the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) Torso phantom (shown here)

The Bureau of Radiation and Medical Devices* (BRMD) Thyroid Phantom

Thyroid Intercomparison Program(TIP).

The radioactivity distribution in the thyroid insert is in a thyroid shaped plane in the centre of the insert. This construction, although only two-dimensional, closely resembles a three-dimensional distribution in a thyroid gland containing radioiodine.

Bottle Manikin ABsorption Phantoms (BOMAB) for Whole Body Counting

Whole Body Counting Intercomparison Program

There are many tests that can be performed with the BOMAB phantoms and the protocol of testing of whole body counting facilities varies from year to year.

The BOttle Manikin ABsorption (BOMAB) family of fantomes for whole body counting

The National Calibration Reference Centre for Bioassay and In Vivo Monitoring (NCRC) has created the BRMD BOMAB phantom family which currently consists of the following phantoms:

  • PM series: Reference male
  • PF series: Reference female
  • P10 series: Reference 10 year old
  • P4 series: Reference four year old
  • PM95 Phantom Male Ninety Fifth Percentile
  • PM5 Phantom Male Fifth Percentile
  • PMAcc Phantom Male Accessory
  • PFAcc Phantom Female Accessory
