The above shows two of the HML's portal set up for use during the Exercise Maritime Response (2006). There are two different portals in this picture (one black, and the other white) and normally they would not be placed in such close proximity. During this exercise the performance characteristics of the two types were evaluated

This photograph illustrates the sensitivity of the HML's portal monitors and shows the distance at which the portal monitor would alarm if a person (in the red ellipse) was contaminated with the amount of activity (given in SI and imperial units). The distance at which the portal would alarm is also shown: 28 metres (92 feet).
