  • Employee of the Canadian Stroke Network (CSN). The CSN is an independent not-for-profit corporation and one of Canada's networks of Centres of Excellence. It is dedicated to decreasing the physical, social and economic consequences of stroke on the individual and on society. Since 2005 the CSN has publically advocated for a reduction in sodium levels in the food supply as a means of reducing average population blood pressure levels. Elevated blood pressure is a leading cause of stroke;
  • The CSN has partnership with the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada that has provided approximately $1.3 million over the last 3 years. These funds have been used for the training of scientists and clinicians, and to support implementation of the Canadian Stroke Strategy (coordinated approaches to stroke care across Canada);

All services were provided on a volunteer basis;
  • Since 2005, I have been leading a campaign to raise awareness about the link between sodium and high blood pressure and to lobby for a reduction in sodium levels in the food supply. This has included for example: lectures to public and professional groups, statements to the media (over 170 print articles, over 50 TV or radio interviews), authoring scientific papers, and maintaining a website;
