Health Canada's Food Directorate completed a detailed safety assessment of the use of of ethyl lauroyl arginate as a preservative in a variety of standardized and unstandardized foods
Health Canada published a Consultation Document on Health Canada's Proposal to Enable the Use of a New Food Additive, Ethyl Lauroyl Arginate, as a Preservative in Various Standardized and Unstandardized Foods on December 9, 2013, requesting comments. The comment period was open for 75 days, during which no new scientific information about this additive was submitted to the Department as a result of this publication.
As no safety concerns were raised through this assessment, the Department has enabled the food additive use described in the information document by updating the Lists of Permitted Preservatives, effective August 18, 2014. The purpose of this communication is to publically announce the Department's decision in this regard and to provide the appropriate contact information for any inquiries or for those wishing to submit any new scientific information relevant to the safety of this food additive.
