Infant Feeding

Infant feedingHealth Canada promotes breastfeeding as the best method of feeding infants as it provides optimal nutritional, immunological and emotional benefits for their growth and development.

Nutrition for Healthy Term Infants contains guidelines for the health professional on infant nutrition from birth to 24 months of age, and is a joint statement from Health Canada, the Canadian Paediatric Society and Dietitians of Canada.

Infant Feeding Update

Health Canada is undertaking a joint process with the Canadian Paediatric Society, Dietitians of Canada and Breastfeeding Committee for Canada to review and update its evidence-informed infant feeding recommendations for health professionals in Canada (Nutrition for Healthy Term Infants). The first phase of the project will address the recommendations for feeding infants from birth to six months of age.

The project will be supported by an Infant Feeding Expert Advisory Group. Refer to the Call for Candidates. Health Canada will also seek valuable input from stakeholders through an open consultation process.
