These methods for chemical analysis of foods were developed in the Food and Nutrition Research Laboratories of the Food Directorate, and in the Regional Laboratories, of Health Protection Branch (HPB), Health Canada. The methods are classified into Official Methods, HPB Methods, and Laboratory Procedures. Official Methods are those methods of analysis designated as such in the Food and Drugs Regulations. HPB Methods are fully validated by inter-laboratory studies and documented analytical methods. Laboratory Procedures are those methods validated by at least one HPB laboratory, but not fully validated by inter-laboratory studies.
This Compendium of Methods for Chemical Analysis of Foods is currently being updated to include new methods developed at the Food Research Division and the Regional Laboratories since 1995 and to reflect the formation of the new Health Products and Food Branch (HPFB).
