Discussion of Immunochromatographic Assays (Lateral Flow Devices) for the Detection of Allergenic Materials

As allergens and the labeling of consumer products have gained a more important role in regulatory and industry procedures, the need for a simple and effective method for monitoring has emerged. Lateral flow diagnostic devices are a robust and easy to use method to accomplish screening of raw materials, cleaning procedures, and environmental monitoring. These devices require minimal training, and a qualitative result can be observed in as little as 5 minutes. Combining this technology with objective reader based interpretation and archiving produces a powerful tool for monitoring and safeguarding consumer products.
