Toolkit for Individual Wells

Health Canada has developed the Toolkit for Individual Wells for First Nations which contains public awareness materials for First Nations residents served by individual wells or wells with fewer than five connections. These materials include:

  • A Guide for Environmental Health Officers and Community-Based Drinking Water Monitors: The guide provides information on well types, well maintenance and visual inspection, and on the bacteriological monitoring of well water.
  • Inspecting Your Well - A Step-by-Step Checklist: This brochure provides First Nations well users with detailed procedures and information on well maintenance, visual inspection of wells, and well contamination prevention.
  • Testing Your Well Water - A Step-by-Step Checklist: This brochure provides First Nations well users with detailed information on bacteriological monitoring of well water and the availability of upon-request and free-of-charge sampling and testing services.
  • PowerPoint Presentation: The PowerPoint presentation contains information similar to what can be found in the guide.
  • Radio Script: The radio script was developed for local radios to remind First Nations well users about the importance of well inspections and bacteriological monitoring of drinking water.
  • Public Notice: The public notice was developed to be posted in Community centers and/or Public facilities to remind First Nations well users about well inspections and bacteriological monitoring of drinking water quality.
  • CD-ROM: The CD-ROM contains all electronic documents included in the Toolkit in PDF.
