Health Canada is proposing changes to Schedule XIV of the Contraventions Regulations to add offences under eight new provisions of the Tobacco Act found in Part I (Tobacco Products), III (Labelling) and IV (Promotion). The Contraventions Act establishes a simplified procedure for prosecuting certain federal offences designated as contraventions. It makes it possible to issue a ticket for violations designated as contraventions in the Contraventions Regulations. In addition, the Contraventions Regulations provide a short description of each contravention and the amounts of the corresponding fines.
Interested parties are encouraged to provide comments and suggestions on the proposal presented in the consultation document by January 19, 2007.
Health Canada will make the results of this consultation available on this Web site.
