Description:
Partnering with the Mental Health and Addictions Services- Eastern Health, Youth and Family Services, Eastern Health and Community Services St John's Region, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary / Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Community Youth Network, Recovering Addicts Fellowship Team, Eastern, Nova-Central and Western School Districts, Labrador School Board, Empire Theatres, Rogers Community Television, and the Newfoundland Independent Film Corporation (NIFCO), the objective of this 16-month project is to employ the talents of youth to prepare messages about illicit drug and other substance use/abuse. The messages will be used to discourage illicit drug use among students and to develop public service announcements to increase public awareness of illicit drug use among youth.

Description:
The ACIP organization serves all four provinces through a leadership team comprised of government and non-government members who have access to their provincial injury prevention coalition, and other committees that address the negative consequences of drug use/abuse. The objective of this 28-month project is to develop, pilot test and expand the implementation of effective approaches to educate youth about the use of illicit drug and other substances, and give youth skills to avoid drugs and the consequences of use. These approaches will be geared for traditional and alternative educational settings as well as community youth and recreational settings.

Toward a Nova Scotia Model for High School Student Engagement and Leadership

Description:
In partnership with the Cape-Breton-Victoria Regional School Board, Addictions Services, Nova Scotia Department of Health Promotion and Protection, Department of Education, and the Canadian Association for School Health, the objective of this three year project is to design, implement and evaluate a resource that prevents or delays the onset of illicit and other substance use among junior and senior high school students and prevents the progression to more frequent or regular use among senior high school students. Illicit substance use prevention will be achieved by strengthening youth capacity and leadership at the high school level. As a peer leadership project, it will support a number of Department of Education curriculum outcomes at both the senior and junior high school levels (within Health/Personal Development and Relationship/Active Healthy Living).

Description:
Partnering with the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, the JL Ilsley Health Centre, the Chebucto Communities Development Association, and the Spryfield Community Action, this 18-month project is focused on helping young women and youth in a "high need" urban community. The objective of this project is to: increase the developmental assets of at-risk young women, with a focus on illicit drug use prevention, through peer education and peer-led public awareness activities; increase the effectiveness of a school-based drug prevention education program in a priority community; and share the results across the province.

Prevention and Early Intervention of Problem Substances Use Among Youth 12-18

Description:
In partnership with the River Valley Health (RVH) Social Work, RVH Addiction Services, RVH Wellness Strategy, RVH Queens North Health Centre, WM Morrison and Associates, M5 Marketing, Centre Québécois de Lutte aux Dépendances, Village of Minto, Moving Forward Initiative, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the objective of this project is to design, implement and evaluate a coordinated social marketing and brief intervention messaging strategy for youth 12 to 18 years of age. This strategic regional initiative will be undertaken in Grand Lake and surrounding areas and involves the engagement and mobilization of youth, community members and service providers. This initiative involves execution of five phases over a 28-month period.

Description:
The objective of this three-year project is to promote the positive development of youth, through the implementation of the Youth Engagement Initiative, as a protective factor in the prevention of illicit drug use by youth in the province of New Brunswick. The project partners would consist of the RCMP division, stakeholders as well as schools in each of the communities requesting project implementation. The Youth Engagement Initiative is a successful process that takes a systematic approach to drug awareness and prevention education through youth community mobilization. A key component of the Initiative is a series of discussions and group activities led by youth in a school, or community setting.
